AGU strikes in Hanover Park
Teenagers arrested for gun, drugs
CRIME SCENE: Hanover Park, Cape Town: The South African Police Service (SAPS) Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) have taken three guns off the streets and arrested three people.
During an intelligence-driven the operation on Tuesday, 23 June 2026, the Unit arrested a 19-year-old male suspect in Lansry Walk after he was found in possession of a prohibited firearm and eight rounds of ammunition.
Follow-up operations led the team to a premises in the same street, where they arrested an 18-year-old male for possession and dealing in drugs after the discovery of 15 sachets of Tik, 51 heroin sachets and an undisclosed amount of cash.
The operation then moved to Cascade Court where a 27-year-old man was arrested when he was found in possession of a prohibited firearm and 11 rounds of ammunition.
Manenberg: In an unrelated incident, the police were busy with visible patrols at around 17:00 on Tuesday, 23 June 2026 when they found an abandoned prohibited firearm with 17 rounds of ammunition at a field between the railway tracks and Yusuf Dadoo Street in Manenberg. An enquiry was opened at Manenberg SAPS for investigation.

Two killed in another mass shooting
CRIME SCENE: Malmesbury, Swartland: Another mass shooting has rocked the Western Cape.
This time the once quite town of Malmesbury is affected where a shooting incident left two people dead and three injured on Wednesday morning, 24 June 2026 at about 9am.
According to Constable Ndakhe Gwala, a media liaison officer for the Western Cape police, Malmesbury police responded to the incident at the corner of Tinki-tinki and Kiewet Street in Wesbank.
“The motive for the shooting is believed to be gang related. Anti-Gang Unit detectives are investigating two counts of murder and three counts of attempted murder,” said Gwala.

● Four men were shot and killed and another wounded in Lotus River on Thursday night, 18 June 2026.
● One person was killed and five injured on Wednesday, 17 June 2026 at around 18:30 in Rio Grande Walk, Manenbrg.
● Three people were shot dead at around 15:45 in Langa on Sunday afternoon, 7 June 2026.
● On Saturday night, 6 June 2026 at around 19:00 three men were shot and killed at a fruit and vegetable stall in Lower Crossroads, Philippi East.
● Four men were killed in a taxi related shooting in Nyanga on Tuesday morning, 2 June 2026 at around 08:30.
Second Cape Flats mass shooting in 24 hours
Four killed in Lotus River
CRIME SCENE: Lotus River, Cape Town: Four men were shot and killed and another wounded in Lotus River on Thursday night, 18 June 2026.
According to South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson, Brigadier Novela Potelwa, Western Cape Anti-Gang Unit detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Potelwa said five men were sitting in front of a residential block of flats on the corner of Nita and Olga streets at about 22:30 when a vehicle with several occupants emerged.
“The occupants alighted and shot at the victims. Four men between the ages of 32 and 44-years died on the scene and another was taken to a medical facility with serious injuries.
“Police deployments in the area have since been reinforced in an effort to ensure no further shooting incidents occur. Grassy Park police have opened murder and attempted murder dockets for investigation.
“Preliminary investigations indicate the motive for the shooting is gang related. No arrests have yet been made,” said Potelwa.
Thursday night’s incident was the second mass shooting on the Cape Flats in just over 24 hours. On Wednesday night, 17 January 2026 a 22-year-old man was shot and killed and four others aged 24, 35, 36 and 48-years, and a 56-year-old woman were injured when gunmen opened fire in Rio Grande Walk, Manenberg.
According to a media liaison officer for the Western Cape Police, Captain FC van Wyk, a silver-grey car drove down Rio Grande Walk. It stopped, the occupants got out and randomly started shooting at the victims.
Police officers patrolling the area responded to the sound of the gunshots and upon their arrival on the scene the suspects fired several shots at them. A 42-year-old SAPS officer was injured by shrapnel to his head.
