Vigilant cops recover hijacked vehicle
CRIME SCENE: Khayelitsha, Cape Town: The police have recovered a hijacked vehicle and suspected stolen cellphones in Makhaza, Khayelitsha.

The Makhaza Crime Prevention Unit were conducting operations on Tuesday, 19 May 2026, at around 17:00, in Lindela Road, when they spotted a silver-grey Renault with four suspicious looking men inside.
“They stopped it and conducted a vehicle search which led to the discovery of six cellular telephones. Further investigation revealed that the car had been reported hijacked at Lingelethu West police station. The four suspects had also perpetrated a robbery at a shop in Strand,” said Thembakazi Mpendukana of the Western Cape police media office.
The four suspects were arrested and detained at Makhaza police station.

CRIME SCENE: Lavender Hill, Cape Town: A 22-year-old man tried to evade the police when he was spotted with a gun in his hand.

The man was standing with the firearm in his hand when he was spotted by the Steenberg police members in Parkin Court, Lavender Hill at approximately 23:30 on Thursday, 23 April 2026.
When he noticed the police, he tried to run but was eventually caught by the members and arrested.
In a seperate incident Makhaza Police members were patrolling on Thursday, 23 April at around 21:00. As they were approaching the corner of Gqolomba and Hlanga Crescent, they noticed a blue VW City Golf parked on the side of the road.
The members stopped and proceeded to conduct a vehicle search resulting in five males aged between 25 and 32 who were in the car, being arrested for two prohibited firearms with ammunition.
