Man linked to host of robberies and carjackings
Robber with fake guns arrested
CRIME SCENE: Khayelitsha, Cape Town: Police arrested a 24-year-old man at Eyadini informal settlement on Wednesday, 26 August 2026, following a series of armed street robberies and carjackings in Makhaza and Harare.
According to the South African Police Service (SAPS) the arrest was a result of a joint operation by members of the Makhaza Anti-Hijacking Team and Harare Crime Intelligence.
“The members followed up on intelligence about a suspect alleged to be involved in the recent street armed robberies and carjackings. Upon arrival at the suspect’s home, a search was conducted, and police recovered two imitation firearms and suspected stolen property,” said SAPS.

Die 43-jarige vrou en haar 20-jarige seun is vroeg Donderdag-oggend, 27 Augustus 2026, in Madison-hof, Scottsdene in Kraaifontein geskiet. Volgens die Suid-Afrikaanse Polisiediens (SAPD) het die voorval omstreeks 5:30 plaasgevind.
‘n Woordvoerder vir die Wes-Kaapse polisie, konstabel Ndakhe Gwala, sê Kraaifontein-polisie het twee aanklagte van moord ná die voorval geregistreer.
“Die ma het wakker geword en opgemerk haar seun is nie by die huis nie. Sy het aan haar dogter gesê sy gaan uit om hom te soek. Kort daarna het haar dogter skote gehoor,” het Gwala gesê.
Die vrou en haar seun is buite langs mekaar met skietwonde aan hul bolyf gevind.
Mediese personeel het albei slagoffers op die toneel dood verklaar. Die motief vir die skietery is nog nie vasgestel nie, en geen arrestasies is nog gemaak nie.

CRIME SCENE: Kraaifontein, Cape Town: A mom and her son have met a brutal end together, their lives suspected to have been taken by the same killer.
The 43-year-old woman and her 20-year-old son were shot early on Thursday morning, 27 August 2026 in Madison Court, Scottsdene in Kraaifontein. According to the South African Police Service (SAPS) the incident happened at about 5:30.
A media liaison officer for the Western Cape police, Constable Ndakhe Gwala, said Kraaifontein police registered two counts of murder following the incident
“The mother woke up and noticed her son was not at home. She told her daughter she was going to look for him. Shortly after that her daughter heard gunshots,” said Gwala.
The woman and her son were found outside lying next to each other with gunshot wounds on their upper bodies.
Medical personnel declared both victims deceased at the scene. The motive for the shooting has not yet been established, and no arrests have been made.

E-hailing car ‘hired’ for drugs
CRIME SCENE: Durban: A man who allegedly hired an e-hailing vehicle to purchase drugs worth R24 000 is now behind bars.
Members of the Durban Metro Police Drug Team received intelligence on 26 August 2026 about the suspect who was allegedly transporting narcotics from Chatsworth to Phoenix.
Officers intercepted the vehicle on the N2/M25 offramp and during a search, a 67-year-old man was found in possession of 800 heroin capsules, with an estimated street value of R24,000.
It is alleged that the suspect had hired an e-hailing vehicle from Phoenix to Chatsworth to purchase the drugs.
The suspect was arrested and charged with dealing in and possession of heroin.
Durban Metro Police said it remained committed to disrupting the movement and distribution of illegal drugs across communities.

MISDAADTONEEL: Riemvasmaak, Noord-Kaap: ‘n Vrou wat na bewering dwelms in ‘n babadoekie versteek het terwyl sy met ‘n kind gereis het, is gearresteer.
Die Suid-Afrikaanse Polisiediens (SAPD) in Riemvasmaak het inligting ontvang oor die vrou van Vredesvallei wat na Augrabies gereis en na bewering dwelms gekoop het terwyl ‘n kind by haar gehad het.
Volgens die SAPD het die vinnige deel van inligting en effektiewe samewerking tussen Riemvasmaak en Augrabies SAPD Woensdag, 26 Augustus 2026 gelei tot die arrestasie van die 27-jarige.
Die verdagte is in Augrabies aangekeer terwyl sy op pad was om ‘n taxi te haal. Sy het ‘n sak met babadoeke gedra, wat deur die polisie deursoek is.
“Tydens die deursoeking het lede dagga en Tik met ‘n geraamde straatwaarde van R1 800 in ‘n doekie ontdek.
“Sy sal na verwagting binnekort in die Augrabiese-landdroshof verskyn op ‘n aanklag van besit van dwelms,” het die SAPD gesê.

Drugs and diapers don’t match
CRIME SCENE: Riemvasmaak, Northern Cape: A woman who allegedly concealed drugs in a diaper while travelling with a child has been arrested.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Riemvasmaak SAPS received information about the woman, from Vredesvallei, who was travelling to Augrabies allegedly purchase drugs while reportedly carrying a child.
According to SAPS, swift sharing of information and effective collaboration between Riemvasmaak and Augrabies SAPS resulted in the arrest of the 27-year-old woman on Wednesday, 26 August 2026.
The suspect was apprehended in Augrabies while on her way to catch a taxi. She was carrying a diaper bag, which was searched by police.
“During the search, members discovered dagga and tik with an estimated street value of R1 800 concealed inside a diaper.
“She is expected to appear in the Augrabies Magistrates’ Court soon on a charge of possession of drugs,” said SAPS.

MISDAADTONEEL: Capricorn, Kaapstad: Munisipale vullisverwyderaars van die Stad Kaapstad het Donderdag-oggend, 27 Augustus 2026 ‘n skokkende ontdekking gemaak toe hulle ‘n pasgebore baba in ‘n vullisdrom gevind het.
Thembakazi Mpendukana, ‘n woordvoerder vir die Wes-Kaapse polisie, sê die gru-ontdekking is in Dassie-weg, Vrygrond, gemaak.
“Die liggaam van ‘n pasgebore babadogtertjie is omstreeks 6:45 in ‘n vullisdrom gevind. ‘n Geregtelike doodsondersoek is deur die Muizenberg SAPD vir verdere ondersoek geopen en geen arrestasie is nog gemaak nie,” het Mpendukana gesê.
Die wyksraadslid vir die gebied, Mandy Marr, het gesê buurt veiligheidsbeamptes (NSO’s) was op die toneel en het die gebied beveilig totdat die polisie opgedaag het.
“Ons doen ‘n beroep op enigiemand in die gemeenskap wat swanger is of ‘n baba gehad het waarvoor hulle nie kan sorg nie, om asseblief vir my of een van die gemeenskapsleiers te kontak. Ons sal u in volle vertroue bystaan,” het Marr gesê.

CRIME SCENE: Capricorn, Cape Town: Municipal waste collectors from the City of Cape Town made a shocking discovery on Thursday morning, 27 August 2026 when they found a dead newborn baby in a dirt bin.
Thembakazi Mpendukana, a media liaison officer for the Western Cape police, said the grim discovery was made in Dassie Road, Vrygrond.
“The body of a newborn baby girl was found in a trash bin at around 6:45. An inquest docket has been opened by Muizenberg SAPS for further investigation and no arrest has been made yet,” said Mpendukana.
Ward councillor for the area, Mandy Marr, said neighbourhood safety officers (NSOs) were on the scene and secured the area until the police arrived.
“We appeal to anybody in the community who is pregnant or has had a baby they cannot care for to please contact myself or one of the community leaders. We will assist you in complete confidence,” said Marr.
