Case yet to be reported after shotgun video goes viral
Call to help identify shooter
CRIME SCENE: Bonteheuwel, Cape Town: The local ward councillor has called on the community to help identify a man who brazenly fired a shotgun in broad daylight.
Angus McKenzie posted a video of the shooting on his Facebook page on Tuesday, 8 September about the incident. The man can be seen firing the shotgun a couple of times while a woman walks behind him while carrying a baby in her arms.
McKenzie posted: “This fool decided it was acceptable to walk around our community FIRING A SHOTGUN. The gun might be bigger than him, but the danger he poses is very real.
“I NEED THE COMMUNITY’S HELP TO IDENTIFY HIM. If you know who this is, please report it through the appropriate tip-off channels. Let’s get him off our streets before someone gets hurt. BONTEHEUWEL WILL NOT STAND FOR THIS.”
The South African Police Service (SAPS) is, however, unaware of the incident.
A media liaison officer for the Western Cape police, Constable Ndakhe Gwala, said Bishop Lavis police have no record of the incident.

MISDAADTONEEL: Bonteheuwel, Kaapstad: Die plaaslike wyksraadslid het die gemeenskap versoek om te help om ‘n man te identifiseer wat helderoordag ‘n haelgeweer in die straat afvuur.
Raadslid Angus McKenzie het Dinsdag, 8 September 2026 ‘n video van die skietery op sy Facebook-blad geplaas. Die man kan gesien word waar hy die haelgeweer ‘n paar keer afvuur terwyl ‘n vrou agter hom loop terwyl sy ‘n baba dra.
McKenzie sê in sy plasing: “Hierdie dwaas het besluit dit is aanvaarbaar om in ons gemeenskap rond te loop EN ‘N HAELGEWEER TE VUUR. Die geweer is dalk groter as hy, maar die gevaar wat hy inhou, is baie werklik.
“EK HET DIE GEMEENSKAP SE HULP NODIG OM HOM TE IDENTIFISEER. As jy weet wie hy is, rapporteer dit asseblief deur die toepaslike kanale. Kom ons kry hom van ons strate af voordat iemand seerkry. BONTEHEUWEL SAL DIT NIE DULD NIE.”
Die Suid-Afrikaanse Polisiediens (SAPD) is egter nie bewus van die voorval nie.
‘n Skakelbeampte vir die Wes-Kaapse polisie, konstabel Ndakhe Gwala, sê die Bishop voorval is nog nie rapporteer nie en die Bishop Lavis-polisie het nog geen rekord daarvan nie.

Police arrest man for stealing security's rifle at crime scene
Outrage as guards killed in CIT heist
CRIME SCENE: Mamelodi, Pretoria: The Security Personnel Party of South Africa (SPPSA) has offered a R200 000 reward for the apprehension and successful prosecution of those responsible for a deadly cash-in-transit robbery.
Two security guards died and one was seriously wounded when the robbers opened fire on them in Mamelodi East Ext 16 on Monday, 7 September 2026.
According to the South African Police Service (SAPS) there was a subsequent shootout between police and the suspects, during which a state vehicle was damaged. No police member was injured.
The SPPSA strongly condemned the “violent and reckless cash-in-transit (CIT) robbery that occurred on Monday”.
“It is reported that a heavily armed syndicate intercepted an armored vehicle, utilizing high-caliber firearms and explosives to compromise the cash van before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of money.
“Such acts of extreme violence show a complete disdain for human life and the rule of law.
“A multidisciplinary task team has been activated to relentlessly track down these dangerous criminals and bring them to book,” said the SPPSA.
CIT robberies face widespread condemnation from law enforcement, private security regulators and government officials across South Africa.
SAPS Crime Intelligence and K9 Unit also followed up on information and arrested a 21-year-old bystander, who was found in possession of a rifle allegedly stolen from the crime scene. He is facing charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
The SPPSA issued a warning to members of the community to refrain from gathering at the crime scene to collect scattered notes.
“This practice is a criminal offence, constitutes theft, and gravely risks lives due to unexploded devices and volatile crime scene dynamics. We are also pleased that the police have arrested the member of the community who was found with a rifle allegedly stolen at the scene,” it said.
The Cash-in-Transit Association of South Africa (CITASA) has also expressed its deep sadness and outrage following the deaths of the two CIT employees in Mamelodi as well as the two CIT guards who lost their lives in a separate cash-in-transit robbery in KwaZulu-Natal also on Monday, 7 September 2026.
