Fake weapon among those seized

Raids deliver guns

CRIME SCENE: Bonteheuwel, Cape Town. – Public Order Police confiscated two firearms in Bonteheuwel on Wednesday, 18 February 2026.

The team received information about firearms hidden at different addresses in Bonteheuwel. At around 02:30, they conducted a search at the first house in Turksvy Street, where they found a 9mm pistol with six rounds of ammunition. They arrested a 23-year-old an alleged gangster for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

At the second house, in Terblans Street, the police seized a firearm with six rounds of ammunition. A 26-year-old alleged gangster was arrested for possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.

CRIME SCENE: Valhalla Park, Cape Town. – Members of Operation Shanela II arrested a 33-year-old man for possession of an imitation firearm in Jessica Street, Valhalla Park on Tuesday 17 February 2026.

The members were doing stop and searches in the area when they spotted the suspect. During the search, they found the imitation firearm and eight blank rounds of ammunition.

MISDAADTONEEL: Athlone, Kaapstad. – ‘n Nege-maande-oue babadogtertjie en twee jong vroue is Dinsdag in nog ‘n sinnelose en gewadadige   skietvoorval vermoor.

Die Suid-Afrikaanse Polisiediens (SAPD) het reageer op klagtes van ‘n skietery by Sunbird Court in Bridgetown, Athlone omstreeks 22:00 Dinsdag, 17 Februarie. Die polisie het die liggame van die twee vroue van onderskeidelik 25 en 36-jaar-oud, sowel as dié van die baba, op die misdaadtoneel ontdek. Al drie is geskiet.

Twee mans is ook tydens die voorval gewond en is na ‘n hospitaal geneem vir behandeling.

Volgens die polisie het drie onbekende verdagtes van die toneel gevlug. Die motief vir die aanval word steeds ondersoek.

Die SAPD het gesê hulle veroordeel die voorval en het inwoners van Athlone en die breër gemeenskap verseker alle pogings sal aangewend word om die skuldiges vas te trek en die area weer te beveilig.

Two women also die in shooting

Baby brutally killed

CRIME SCENE: Athlone, Cape Town. – In another senseless and brutal shooting incident on Tuesday night, 17 February 2026, a nine-month-old baby girl was killed alongside two women.

The South African Police Services (SAPS) responded to reports of a shooting at Sunbird Court in Bridgetown, Athlone at about 10pm. When the officers arrived at the crime scene, they found the bodies of two women aged 25 and 36, as well as that of the nine-month-old baby. All three sustained fatal gunshot wounds.

Two men were also wounded during the incident and taken to hospital for treatment.

According to the police three unknown suspects fled the scene. The motive for the attack is still under investigation.

SAPS said it condemned the incident and assured the residents of Athlone and broader community that every effort would be made to bring the perpetrators to book and restore safety and stability in the area.

MISDAADTONEEL: Hanover Park en Mitchells Plain, Kaapstad. – Drie mans is agter tralies en drie onwettige vuurwapens is van ons strate verwyder na vinnige optrede deur die Maitland blitspatrollie.

Op Maandag 16 Februarie 2026 omstreeks 8nm het die cops hul blou ligte en sirenes geaktiveer toe hulle na ’n skietvoorval in Hanover Park otnbied is.

Volgens ’n polisieverklaring het die span ’n beskrywing van ’n voertuig wat met die skietvoorval verbind was, ontvang en dit opgevolg. Omstreeks 10nm dieselfde aand het die lede die silwer VW Jetta by ’n plek in Lentegeur opgemerk.

Hulle het die voertuig, met drie manlike insittendes, genader en ’n deeglike soektog uitgevoer. Drie vuurwapens, waarvan twee nie reeksnommers gehad het nie, is in die  motor gevind. Die cops het ook 107 rondtes ammunisie gevind. Die verdagtes is gearresteer vir besit van ’n ongelisensieerde vuurwapen, en besit van verbode vuurwapens en ammunisie.

Die verdagtes, tussen die ouderdomme van18 en 31 jaar, sal in die Mitchells Plain verskyn.

NOG MISDAADTONELE: Daar was ook verslae van skietvoorvalle in Vrygrond, Valhalla Park en Wesbank op 17 Februarie 2026.

Cops nab shooting suspects

CRIME SCENE: Hanover Park and Mitchells Plain, Cape Town. – Three suspected criminals are behind bars and three illegal firearms off our streets following swift action by the Maitland Flying Squad.

On Monday 16 February 2026 at around 8pm, the Squad activated their blue lights and sirens as they swiftly made their way to a shooting incident in Hanover Park.

According to a police statement, the squad obtained a description of a vehicle linked to the shooting which they quickly followed up. About two hours late, around 10pm, the members spotted the silver VW Jetta at a garage in Lentegeur.

They tactically approached the vehicle with three male occupants and conducted a thorough search, during which three firearms were found, two of which had no serial numbers. The Squad also recovered 107 rounds of ammunition. The suspects were arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm, possession of prohibited firearms, and ammunition.

The suspects aged between 18 and 31 is set to appear in the Mitchells Plain Magistrate’s Court.

MISDAADTONEL: Kleinvlei, Kaapstad. - Drie verdagtes van onderskeidelik 39, 37 en 21- jaar-oud is in hegtenis geneem vir die besit van onwettige vuurwapens en dwelms.

Volgens die Suid-Afrikaanse Polisiediens (SAPD) is die drie op Woensdag, 11 Februarie 2026 tydens 'n intelligensie-gedrewe operasie gevang.

Die SAPD sê in 'n verklaring lede van die Anti-Ekonomiese Misdaadtaak en lede van die tak teen Vervalsing en Onwettige Goedere het die operasie in Kleinvlei en Eersterivier uitgevoer waar hulle geïdentifiseerde persele deursoek het.

Tydens die operasie het die polisie beslag gelê op twee verbode 9mm-pistole met ammunisie en 100 mandrax-tablette by verskillende adresse.

Die verdagtes sal na verwagting in die Blue Downs-landdroshof verskyn.

CRIME SCENE: Kleinvlei, Cape Town. – Three suspects aged 39, 37 and 21 have been arrested for the possession guns and drugs.

According to the South African Police Services (SAPS) the three were arrested on Wednesday, 11 February 2026 during an intelligence driven operation.

SAPS said in a statement members of the Anti-Economic Crime Task and Counterfeit and Illicit Goods Policing teams conducted the operation in Kleinvlei and Eerste River where they searched identified premises.

During the search police confiscated two prohibited 9mm pistols with ammunition and 100 mandrax tablets at different addresses.

The suspects are set to appear in the Blue Downs Magistrates’ court.

Shooting incident on 4 February 2026:

In Nyanga a shooting allegedly occurred at the corner of Zwelitsha Drive and Fourth Avenue on Wednesday, 4 February 2026.

Three suspects were allegedly shot and killed by police officers. The suspects were allegedly part of a robbery when police drove by. They shot at the police who returned fire.

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate is investigating the case.

Councillor shot dead after meeting

TWO men shot dead a City of Cape Town Councillor on Tuesday, 3 February.

According to reports and the Western Cape police, councillor Lazola Gungxe was shot shortly after he attended a meeting inside the Old Crossroads Community Hall in Nyanga.

The police are reportedly looking for two male suspects who fled the scene in a white Toyota Avanza. The car did not have any number plates.


Two arrests made

‘Hijacker’ shot and caught

Cops have shot and wounded a hijacking suspect after he allegedly pulled a gun on them in Manenberg.

According to a statement by the Western Cape police, Maitland Flying Squad cops received information on Monday, 2 February 2026 just before 2am about a VW Polo Vivo that was hijacked earlier in Athlone.

The vehicle was spotted in Jade Crescent, Manenberg and when the cops arrived at the scene the suspects ran away. One of the suspects allegedly pulled out a firearm and pointed it at the police, who responded by shooting him in his right leg. The suspect dropped the firearm and attempted to evade arrest, but he was caught in the next road. The police searched him and found two cell phones, bank cards and an amplifier in his possession. 

Two suspects, aged 24 and 36, were arrested for possession of a hijacked vehicle, attempted murder, possession of a replica firearm and possession of stolen property. – Own Correspondent
