High-speed chase in Bishop Lavis
Suspects caught after shots fired at cops
CRIME SCENE: Bishop Lavis, Cape Town: A high-speed chase and shots fired at police led to the arrest of three men on Saturday night, 16 May 2026.

A Western Cape police media liaison officer, Captain FC Van Wyk, said members of Operation Lockdown 3 were conducting stop and search operations in Myrtle Road, Bishop Lavis.
According to Van Wyk the police approached a black VW Polo Playa at around 23:45, but the car sped off. The occupants, in the process, shot at the police.
“The members retaliated and a high speed chase ensued. The suspects were, however, caught in Civic Way, Matroosfontein, Elsies River.
“A 9mm Glock firearm with four rounds of ammunition and 11 spent cartridges were found in their possession. All exhibits, including the VW Polo and firearm were confiscated,” he said.
The three occupants of the vehicle, aged 34, 36 and 42-years, will appear in the Bishop Lavis Magistrate court on a charge of attempted murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition once they have been charged.
No injuries were sustained by the SAPS members.
