Manhunt for Franschhoek mass killers

CRIME SCENE: Franschhoek, Cape Winelands: The police have launched a manhunt for the killers of three people in a mass shooting incident in Franschhoek on Sunday morning, 17 May 2026.

Reports from the scene indicate that two gunmen entered a home in Jakaranda Street, Groendal at approximately 9:55 and fired several shots. Three men were killed on the scene, while a woman and another man were injured. The victims were aged between of 30 and 35 years.

Franschhoek police have opened murder and attempted murder dockets for investigation.

According to Brigadier Novela Potelwa of the Western Cape police media office detectives from the Provincial Serious Violent Crimes unit have taken over the investigation. No arrests have been made yet and the motive for the incident is the subject of the investigation.
