Police find several vehicles, arrest 24-year-old
Hijackings traced to Mandalay
CRIME SCENE: Mandalay, Cape Town: Information about a vehicle hijacked in Harare, Khayelitsa has led police to several other cars linked to hijackings.
Members of the South African Police Service Flying Squad, in collaboration with Crime Intelligence, recovered six stolen vehicles and arrested a 24-year-old male suspect in Mandalay on Thursday night, 10 September 2026.
According to SAPS, the team acted on intelligence and went to a residential property in Dickens Drive, Mandalay, where they found a Toyota Starlet that was hijacked in Harare recently.
“They proceeded to a second address in Melderson Road and found four VW Polo vehicles and a Toyota Hilux. The Vehicle Identification Numbers (VIN) were tampered with, and some had been removed.
“Upon further probing, police discovered that some of the vehicles were linked to cases of hijackings that were reported at Cape Town Central, Woodstock and Muizenberg police stations between July and September 2026.
“The suspect will appear before the Mitchells Plain Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 14 September 2026,” said SAPS.

CRIME SCENE: Hawston, Overberg: The Western Cape Flying Squad has made a big drug bust in this small fishing village.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) said they arrested three male suspects for dealing in drugs after a raid at a house in Forbes Street on Thursday, 27 August 2026.
“Police acted on intelligence and conducted a search at the mentioned address at about 14:45. During the search, they found 800 mandrax tablets, 1 035 sachets of tik, 25 rounds of ammunition and cash. Three suspects, aged 29, 30 and 44-years, were arrested for dealing in drugs and will appear before the Hermanus Magistrate’s Court.
“Western Cape police remain committed to rooting out drugs from communities,” said SAPS.

Four arrested in kidnap drama
CRIME SCENE: Retreat, Cape Town: A kidnapping drama played itself out in Retreat on Friday, 26 June 2026 when the South African Police Service (SAPS) arrested four suspects.
Swift action by the Western Cape Flying Squad led to the arrest of the suspects for firearm related offences and conspiracy to commit kidnapping.
The arrest is attributed to Crime Intelligence’s intervention and the Flying Squad’s, said SAPS. Members of the Flying Squad acted on information received about suspects in a silver Toyota Rumion vehicle, conspiring to kidnap a victim in Retreat. They spotted the motor vehicle in 11th Avenue, Retreat and conducted a search.
The members found an assault rifle with 18 rounds of ammunition and a pistol with seven rounds of ammunition. They also recovered a set of Eastern Cape license plates and a vanity bag containing seven rounds of rifle ammunition and two cellular telephones.
The four suspects between the ages of 25 and 36-years were arrested and will appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Monday 29 June 2026.
