Three in court for mass shooting
NATIONAL: An intensive investigation by the Provincial Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) has led to the arrest of three suspects who are expected to appear before the Orkney Magistrate’s Court in connection with an alleged mass shooting at a tavern in Kanana.

The suspects, aged between 27 and 32-years, were arrested on Thursday, 25 June 2026, following investigations into an incident that allegedly occurred at a local tavern in Kanana on Friday, 01 May 2026.
It is alleged that the three suspects entered the tavern armed with firearms and opened fire on patrons without any apparent provocation. Two people succumbed to their injuries, while five others sustained gunshot wounds and were taken to hospital for medical treatment.
The Provincial Anti-Gang Investigation Unit, working in collaboration with Kanana Detectives and other specialised units, conducted an extensive investigation that allegedly linked the suspects to the incident.
The trio have been charged with two counts of murder and five counts of attempted murder. They are expected to appear before the Orkney Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 26 June 2026.

Sersant Wesley Twigg, ‘n skakelbeampte vir die Wes-Kaapse polisie, het gesê die Ravensmead-polisie het ‘n moordsaak geregistreer na die skietvoorval omstreeks 06:30, wat die lewe van ‘n 38-jarige man geëis het.
“Polisielede het die slagoffer met skietwonde aan sy liggaam gevind het. Die slagoffer is deur lede van die publiek in sy voertuig gevind en is op die toneel deur mediese personeel as dood verklaar.
“Die omstandighede rondom die voorval word ondersoek en geen arrestasies is nog gemaak nie,” het Twigg gesê.

Sergeant Wesley Twigg, a media liaison officer for the Western Cape police, said Ravensmead police registered a murder case following the shooting incident at about 06:30, which claimed the life of a 38-year-old man.
“Police members attended to the crime scene where they found the victim with gunshot wounds to his body. The victim was found inside his vehicle by members of the public and was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel.
“The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation and no arrests have been made,” said Twigg.

MISDAADTONEEL: Jakes Gerwel-rylaan, Kaapstad: Twee mans is gearresteer nadat op-en-wakker lede van die Suid-Afrikaanse Polisiediens (SAPD) drie outomatiese aanvalsgewere in hul besit gevind het.

Die ontdekking van die wapens het gekom toe lede van die Wes-Kaapse Nasionale Intervensie-eenheid (NIU) Donderdag 25 Junie 2026 teen onluste by die Siqalo-informele nedersetting naby Mitchells Plain ontplooi is .
“Terwyl hulle in Jakes Gerwel-rylaan gepatrolleer het, het hulle ‘n verdagte rooi Fiat Uno gewaar en sy bewegings fyn dopgehou. Omstreeks 12:15 het die voertuig voor ‘n winkelsentrum stilgehou en die lede het dit genader. Hulle het opgemerk dat die lisensieskyfie al in 2023 verval het en die voertuig is toe deursoek.
“Hulle het ‘n groot wit sak in die kattebak gevind met drie vol-outomatiese aanvalsgewere. Die motor se twee insittendes van 32 en 45-jaar-oud is op die toneel gearresteer vir die besit van verbode vuurwapens,” het die SAPD gesê.

CRIME SCENE: Jakes Gerwel Drive, Cape Town: Two men were arrested after vigilant South African Police Service (SAPS) members found three fully automatic assault rifles in their possession.

The discovery came when members of the Western Cape National Intervention Unit (NIU) were deployed following unrest at Siqalo informal settlement near Mitchells Plain on Thursday, 25 June 2026.
“While patrolling on Jakes Gerwel Drive, they spotted a suspicious red Fiat Uno and closely monitored its movements. At about 12:15, the vehicle stopped in front of a shopping complex and the members approached it. They noticed that the licence disc had expired in 2023 and proceeded to search the vehicle.
“They found a big white bag in the boot containing three fully automatic assault rifles and arrested the two occupants, aged 32 and 45-years, on the spot for possession of prohibited firearms,” said SAPS.

MISDAADTONEEL: Napier, Overberg: Die Suid-Afrikaanse Polisiediens (SAPD) het ‘n groot hoeveelheid dwelms gekonfiskeer en vier verdagtes in twee afsonderlike voorvalle gearresteer.

Op Woensdag 24 Junie 2026, omstreeks 11:25, het lede van die Napier SAPD ‘n silwer Chevrolet Spark onderskep nadat hulle inligting ontvang het oor ‘n verdagte motorvoertuig wat in die rigting van Napier, tussen Caledon en Bredasdorp, ry.
Volgens die SAPD het die lede vinnig reageer en die voertuig op die R316 afgetrek.
“Binne was twee mans van 49 en 63-jaar-oud. Die voertuig is deursoek en 2 402 Mandrax-tablette is gevind. Beide verdagtes is gearresteer vir dwelmhandel,” het die polisie gesê.
Epping Forest: In die tweede voorval, ook op Woensdag 24 Junie 2026, is twee mans van 33 en 38-jaar oud deur lede van Operasie Lockdown 3 in Loughton-laan gearresteer. Hulle is in besit van 40 Mandrax-tablette en 20 sakkies Tik gevind. Die dwelms is gekonfiskeer.

CRIME SCENE: Napier, Overberg: The South African Police Service (SAPS) have seized a large amount of drugs and arrested four suspects in two separate incidents.

On Wednesday, 24 June 2026, at about 11:25 members of Napier SAPS intercepted a silver Chevrolet Spark after they received information about a suspicious motor vehicle travelling towards the village, situated between Caledon and Bredasdorp.
According to SAPS the members swiftly responded and stopped the vehicle on the R316.
“Inside were two males aged 49 and 63-years old, who during a search were found with 2 402 Mandrax tablets. Both suspects were arrested for dealing in drugs,” said the police.
Epping Forest: In the second incident, also on Wednesday, 24 June 2026, two men aged 33 and 38-years, were arrested by members of Operation Lockdown 3 in Loughton Avenue. They were found in possession of 40 Mandrax tablets and 20 sachets of Tik. The drugs were confiscated.

Volgens konstabel Ndakhe Gwala van die Wes-Kaapse polisie se mediakantoor is ‘n saak van moord geopen gemaak nadat ‘n 35-jarige vrou op die hoek van Boesak- en Botfonteinweg, Kraaifontein doodgeskiet is.
“Die omstandighede rondom die voorval word ondersoek,” het Gwala gesê.
