Man killed at taxi rank
CRIME SCENE: Delft, Cape Town: A man was shot and killed at a taxi rank in Delft on Tuesday morning, 28 July 2026.
The shooting happened at about 6.30 at a taxi rank in Mango Street.
Sergeant Wesley Twigg, a media liaison officer for the Western Cape police, said Delft police members attended to the crime scene where they found a 34-year-old with gunshot wounds to his body.
“The victim was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel. The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation and no arrests have been made,” said Twigg.

Nadat die verdagtes aangekeer is, is wetstoepassingsbeamptes van die Stad Kaapstad na die toneel in Plumstead ontbied waar hulle die verdagtes in besit van vermoedelike gesteelde PRASA-kabels, gevind het.
Albei verdagtes is gearresteer en die bewysstukke is aan die Suid-Afrikaanse Polisiediens (SAPD) oorhandig.
“Welgedaan aan die wakker reaksie-beamptes van SRU Security, ondersteun deur Zone en Fidelity, wie se spanwerk tot hierdie arrestasie gelei het,” het JP Smith, die Stad Kaapstad se burgemeesterskomiteelid vir Veiligheid en Sekuriteit, gesê.
“Hierdie private sekuriteitsmaatskappye ding elke dag met mekaar mee om kliënte. Die sukses van hulle besigheid is afhanklik daarvan om kliënte se alarmstelsels te monitor en privaat eiendom te beskerm.
“Tog, wanneer dit kom by die bekamping van misdaad in ons gemeenskappe, gaan dit nie oor mededinging nie, maar slegs oor die veiligheid van gemeenskapslede. Ons weet, en erken openlik, dat die SAPD nie altyd en oral kan wees nie,” het Smith gesê.

Plumstead cable thieves arrested
CRIME SCENE: Plumstead, Cape Town: Excellent teamwork by SRU, Zone and Fidelity private security companies led to the arrest of two suspects early on Tuesday morning, 28 July 2026.
After the suspects were apprehended City of Cape Town Law Enforcement officers were called to the scene in Plumstead where they found the suspects in possession cables, believed to have been vandalised and stolen from the PRASA rail network.
Both suspects were arrested and the evidence handed over to the South African Police Service (SAPS).
“Well done to the vigilant armed response officers from SRU Security, supported by Zone and Fidelity, whose teamwork led to these arrests,” said JP Smith, the City of Cape Town’s Mayoral Committee member for Safety and Security.
“These private security companies compete with one another every day for customers. Their business depends on attracting clients to monitor alarm systems and protect private property.
“Yet, when it comes to fighting crime in our communities, they put competition aside.
“We recognise the enormous value that private security companies, neighbourhood watches and community improvement districts bring to public safety. We know, and openly acknowledge, that SAPS cannot be everywhere, all the time,” said Smith.

MISDAADTONEEL: Stellenbosch: ‘n Plaasbestuurder en sy vrou herstel van ernstige beserings nadat hulle by hul huis op Neethlingshof Landgoed aangeval is.
Die Vlottenburg Community Online-groep het die aanval op hul Facebook-blad aangekondig en gesê: “Nog ‘n plaasaanval het in ons vallei plaasgevind. Die Neethlingshof Landgoed se plaasbestuurder en gesin is vanaand omstreeks 19:00 (24 Julie 2026) deur die balaklawa-bende aangeval en aangerand. Gelukkig is niemand in die aanval dood nie, maar die gesinslede is ernstig beseer. Enigiemand met inligting kan die Stellenbosch-polisie kontak. Kom ons hou ons gemeenskap veilig deur enige verdagte aktiwiteite en gedrag in ons vallei aan te meld.”
Na die aanval het die verdagtes goed van die plaas gesteel en gevlug.
Die Wes-Kaapse Minister van Polisietoesig en Gemeenskapsveiligheid, Anroux Marais, het die Suid-Afrikaanse Polisiediens (SAPD) versoek om elke beskikbare ondersoek- en intelligensiebron te gebruik om diegene wat verantwoordelik is, te identifiseer, te arresteer en te verseker dat hulle so gou as moontlik voor die howe gebring word.
“Dit is ‘n wrede daad van geweld. My gedagtes en gebede is met die beseerde paartjie en hul geliefdes. Ek wens hulle ‘n volle en spoedige herstel toe.
“Inwoners moet waaksaam bly en verdagte persone, voertuie of ongewone aktiwiteite aanmeld. Sterk vennootskappe tussen gemeenskappe en wetstoepassing-agentskappe bly een van die doeltreffendste maniere om misdaad te bekamp,” het Marais gesê.
Geen arrestasies is nog gemaak nie.
Husband and wife recovering from serious injuries
Brutal attack on farming couple
CRIME SCENE: Stellenbosch: A farm manager and his wife are recovering from serious injuries sustained during an attack at their home on Neethlingshof Estate.
The Vlottenburg Community Online group announced the attack on their Facebook page, stating: “Another Farm attack happened in our valley. The Neethlingshof Estate farm manager and family was attacked and assaulted by the balaclava mask gang around 7:00pm tonight (24 July 2026). Luckily no one died in the attack but the family members were badly injured. Anyone with information can contact the Stellenbosch police station. Let’s keep our community safe and secure by reporting any suspicious activity and behaviour in our valley.”
After the attack the suspects stole things from the farm and fled.
Western Cape Minister of Police Oversight and Community Safety, Anroux Marais, called on the South African Police Service (SAPS to use every available investigative and intelligence resource to identify those responsible, arrest them and ensure they are brought before the courts as quickly as possible.
“This a a brutal act of violence. My thoughts and prayers are with the injured couple and their loved ones. I wished them a full and speedy recovery.
“Residents must remain vigilant and report suspicious people, vehicles or unusual activity. Strong partnerships between communities and law enforcement remain one of the most effective ways to combat crime,” said Marais

KAAPSTAD: Wetstoepassers van die Stad Kaapstad het die afgelope week tot Sondag 26 Julie 2026 ‘n rekord 527 arrestasies gemaak.
Die aantal arrestasies ewenaar die rekord wat vroeër vanjaar behaal is.
“Die druk op ons personeel is groot, maar hulle lewer steeds resultate. Elke arrestasie is egter nog ‘n herinnering aan hoe swak mense se gedrag is,” het die Stad se burgemeesterskomiteelid vir Veiligheid en Sekuriteit, JP Smith, gesê.
Wetstoepassingsbeamptes het 334 arrestasies gemaak en 14 372 boetes uitgereik terwyl die Metropolisie 126 verdagtes gearresteer het.
Beamptes het ook drie onwettige vuurwapens, ‘n nagemaakte vuurwapen, nege rondtes ammunisie, verskillende dwelms en ses gesteelde en/of gekaapte voertuie teruggevind.
Verkeersbeamptes het 67 verdagtes gearresteer – 53 vir dronkbestuur, vier vir roekelose en nalatige bestuur en 10 op ander aanklagte. Hulle het 1 722 lasbriewe uitgevoer, 168 openbare Vervoer voertuie gekonfiskeer en 53 012 boetes uitgereik.
More than 500 people arrested in a week
City officers make record catch
CAPE TOWN: The City of Cape Town’s law enforcement agencies made a record number of 527 arrests in the past week.
The overall arrest tally ties the highest on record, which occurred earlier this year.
“The pressure on our staff is relentless, but still they deliver. However, every arrest is another reminder of how poorly people behave,” said Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, JP Smith.
Law Enforcement officers made 334 arrests and issued 14 372 fines and the Metro Police arrested 126 suspects.
Officers also recovered three illegal firearms, an imitation firearm, nine rounds of ammunition, various quantities of drugs and at least six stolen and/or hijacked vehicles.
Traffic Officers arrested 67 suspects – 53 for drunk driving, four for reckless and negligent driving and 10 on other charges. They executed 1 722 warrants, impounded 168 public transport vehicles and issued 53 012 fines.

KILLARNEY, Kaapstad: Die Stad Kaapstad het ‘n ondersoek begin om die oorsaak van ‘n brand aan ‘n MyCiTi-bus te bepaal.
Die bus is heeltemal vernietig en groot skade is aan die Killarney-stasie gerig, wat vir die afsienbare toekoms gesluit sal bly.
Die Stad se Stedelike Mobiliteitsdirektoraat het die ondersoek bevestig en gesê dat daar geen beserings as gevolg van die brand was nie.
Die 18 meter lange MyCiTi-bus het kort voor 09:00 op Maandag, 27 Julie 2026 by die MyCiTi-stasie in Killarney, langs Potsdam-weg, naby die kruising met Silverstone-weg, aan die brand geslaan. Die Stad se brandweerdienste het gehelp om die brand te blus.
Die Stad se Burgemeesterskomiteelid vir Stedelike Mobiliteit, Raadslid Rob Quintas, sê die bestuurder het ‘n ongewone geluid gehoor toe hy by die Killarney-stasie aankom.
“Die volgende oomblik het hy rook voor aan die bus opgemerk. Gelukkig is al die passasiers en personeel veilig uit die bus voordat die brand vererger het.
“Ons is ook in kennis gestel dat ‘n protesoptog ‘n paar minute voor die voorval verder af in Potsdam-weg plaasgevind het. Die ondersoek sal ook bepaal of daar enige verband tussen die optog en die brand was.
“Hierdie voorval sal ‘n groot impak hê op die pendelaars wat van die Killarney-stasie gebruik maak. Hulle sal die Potsdam-stasie op die hoek van Potsdam- en Blaauwbergweg in die komende maande moet gebruik.
“Dit is ‘n massiewe slag vir ons bedrywighede, aangesien dit ‘n baie gewilde roete is. Die koste van die skade sal in die komende dae bepaal word, maar dit sal in die miljoene rande wees. Dit sal waarskynlik baie maande, indien nie ten minste ‘n jaar nie, neem om die herstelwerk aan die stasie te voltooi,” het Quintas gesê.

City starts probe into bus fire
KILLARNEY, Cape Town: The City of Cape Town has launched an investigation to find out what caused a fire to one a MyCiTi bus on Monday, 27 July 2026.
The bus was completely destroyed and extensive damage was done to the Killarney station, which will remain closed for the foreseeable future.
The City’s Urban Mobility Directorate confirmed the investigation and said there were no injuries as result of the fire.
It was reported shortly before 09:00 that a 18m MyCiTi bus was on fire at the MyCiTi station in Killarney, along Potsdam Road, close to the intersection with Silverstone Road. The City’s Fire Services assisted in putting the fire out.
The City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas, said the driver heard an unusual sound when he arrived at the Killarney station.
“The next moment he noticed smoke coming from the front of the bus. Thankfully, all of the passengers and the staff were safely evacuated before the fire got worse.
“We were also notified that a protest happened further down Potsdam Road, a few minutes before the incident. The investigation will also determine whether there are any links between the protest and the fire.
“This incident will have a major impact on the commuters who make use of the Killarney station. They will have to use the Potsdam station on the corner of Potsdam and Blaauwberg Roads in coming months.
“This is a massive blow to our operations as this is a very popular route. The cost of the damage will be determined in coming days, safe to say we expect it will be millions. It will likely take many months, if not at least a year, to do the repairs to the station,” said Quintas.
Gunmen kill five inside house
Bloodbath in Gugulethu
CRIME SCENE: Gugulethu, Cape Town: Five people were killed and one injured in a shooting incident during the early hours of Monday, 27 July 2026,
Detectives attached to the Provincial Serious and Violent Crime Unit are investigating the which occurred in NY 50, Gugulethu.
Police responded to reports of a shooting at a residence where they found the victims with multiple gunshot wounds. Four men and one woman, aged between 19 and 23-years, were declared deceased at the scene by medical personnel. A 20-year-old woman who sustained gunshot wounds was transported to a medical facility for treatment.
Preliminary investigation indicates that two unidentified armed men forced their way into the house by kicking open the front door, said the South African Police Service (SAPS).
“The suspects allegedly demanded a firearm before opening fire on the occupants. They fled the scene and have not yet been arrested,” said SAPS.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the Western Cape, Major General Luyanda Damoyi, has strongly condemned the brutal attack and has directed detectives to pursue all available leads to bring those responsible to justice.
The motive for the attack is yet to be established.
