Polisiebeamptes ook onder gewondes

MISDAADTONEEL: Kayamandi, Stellenbosch: Vier mense is doodgeskiet en vier beseer in ‘n massa-skietvoorval.
Die Suid-Afrikaanse Polisiediens (SAPD) het gesê twee van die gewondes is polisiebeamptes.
Speurders verbonde aan die Wes-Kaapse Eenheid vir Ernstige en Geweldsmisdaad ondersoek die skietery wat Sondagaand 26 Julie 2026 in Kayamandi, Stellenbosch, plaasgevind het.
Die SAPD het gesê die Stellenbosch-polisie het reageer op berigte van ‘n skietery omstreeks 17:35 in 7de Laan waar hulle ‘n onbekende man gevind het met noodlottige skietwonde.
“Terwyl hulle op die misdaadtoneel was, het hulle nog skote in die omgewing gehoor en onmiddellik gereageer. Toe hulle die gebied nader, het gewapende verdagtes op hulle begin skiet. Die lede het teruggeskiet en die verdagtes gedwing om te vlug.
“Tydens die voorval het twee SAPD-lede en twee lede van die publiek, ‘n man en ‘n vrou, skietwonde opgedoen en is na ‘n nabygeleë mediese fasiliteit vervoer vir behandeling.
“Vier ongeïdentifiseerde mans is met noodlottige skietwonde gevind. ’n 9 mm-vuurwapen is by een van die misdaadtonele teruggevind. Misdaadtoneel-kundiges het deur die nag gewerk om bewyse in te samel om die ondersoek te help,” het die SAPD gesê.
Die waarnemende Wes-Kaapse Provinsiale Kommissaris, Generaal-Majoor Luyanda Damoyi, het die aanval sterk veroordeel en die geweld as onaanvaarbaar beskryf.
“Diegene wat polisiebeamptes aanval en ons gemeenskappe terroriseer, sal die volle mag van die gereg in die gesig staar,” het Damoyi gesê.
Geen arrestasies is nog gemaak nie.

Mass shooting in Stellenbosch
CRIME SCENE: Kayamandi, Stellenbosch: Four people have been shot dead and four injured in a mass shooting incident.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) said two of the wounded were police officers.
Detectives attached to the Western Cape Serious and Violent Crime Unit are investigating the shooting which happened in Kayamandi, Stellenbosch on Sunday evening, 26 July 2026.
SAPs said the Stellenbosch police responded to reports of a shooting at approximately 17:35 in 7th Avenue where they found an unidentified man who had sustained fatal gunshot wounds.
“While attending to the crime scene, the members heard further gunfire in the vicinity and immediately responded. As they approached the area, they encountered armed suspects who opened fire on them. The members returned fire, forcing the suspects to flee the scene.
“During the incident, two SAPS members and two members of the public, a man and a woman, sustained gunshot injuries and were transported to a nearby medical facility for treatment.
“Four unidentified men were found with fatal gunshot wounds. A 9mm firearm was recovered at one of the crime scenes and has been seized for forensic analysis. Crime scene experts worked through the night processing the scenes and collecting evidence to assist the investigation,” said SAPS.
Acting Western Cape Provincial Commissioner, Major General Luyanda Damoyi, strongly condemned the brazen attack, describing the violence as unacceptable.
“We will utilise every available resource to identify and apprehend those responsible. Those who attack police officers and terrorise our communities will face the full might of the law,” said Damoyi.
No arrests have been made.

Body found in drain
LANSDOWNE, Cape Town: The South African Police Service (SAPS) registered an inquest following the discovery of a man’s body on Friday, 24 July 2026 in Turfhall Road.
A media liaison officer for the Western Cape police, Captain FC Van Wyk, said the deceased was found inside a stormwater drain under a plastic sheet that had apparently been used as a makeshift shelter.
“No immediate signs of foul play were observed at the scene. A postmortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death. The scene was processed and the body was removed by forensic services,” said Van Wyk.

Teens gunned down at spaza
CRIME SCENE: Mitchells Plain, Cape Town: Two teenagers, a boy and girl, have been gunned down in yet another bloood bath on the Cape Flats.
This time the scene of the crime was Tafelsig, on Friday, 24 July 2026.
According to a media liaison officer for the Western Cape police, Captain FC Van Wyk, the police received a complaint at about 21:15 of a shooting incident in front of a tuckshop in Laura Street, Tafelsig, Mitchells Plain.
“On the scene members found an 18-year-old female with one gunshot wound to the back. The victim was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel.
“A second victim, an 18-year-old male was transported to hospital with a private vehicle, but was declared deceased on arrival. A third person, a 23-year-old male, was hit by a stray bullet. He sustained a gunshot wound to his right arm.
“Circumstances surrounding this shooting incident are under investigation. The motive is believed to be gang related,” said Van Wyk.
Mitchells Plain police registered two counts of murder and an attempted murder case for investigation. No arrest has been made yet and investigation continues.

In another report of a shooting on Saturday, 25 July 2026, two people, believed to be shop owners were wounded inside a shop in 12th Avenue, Silver City, Tafelsig. This incident happened not far from the Laura Street incident.

Triple murder rocks Mother City
MURDER SCENE: Khayelitsha, Cape Town: Another mass shooting has rocked the Mother City following the killing of three people on Friday, 23 July 2026.
Western Cape police have launched a murder investigation following the shooting incident in Site B, Khayelitsha in which three men, aged 30, 31 and 32-years, were fatally wounded.
The police responded to a complaint at Mofala Street, Site B, at approximately 15:50, where they found the victims with multiple gunshot wounds. The victims were declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel.
“Preliminary information indicates that two unidentified armed men arrived at the premises and made enquiries about the victims before proceeding to a structure at the back of the property.
“Shortly thereafter, gunshots were heard. The suspects were then seen fleeing the scene in a white Hyundai motor vehicle.No arrests have been made,” said SAPS.

MISDAADTONEEL: Lavender Hill, Kaapstad: Die Suid-Afrikaanse Polisiediens (SAPD) het ‘n moordverdagte gearresteer en ‘n vuurwapen in Lavender Hill gekonfiskeer.
Volgens die SAPD het die Anti-Bende-Eenheid op Woensdag, 22 Julie 2026 ‘n deursoek-en-stop-operasie in Grindallaan uitgevoer. Tydens die operasie het hulle ‘n 23-jarige man deursoek en ‘n 9mm Star-pistool sonder ‘n reeksnommer en 64 rondtes ammunisie in sy besit gevind.
“Die lede word in die gebied ontplooi weens voortdurende bendegeweld. Verdere ondersoek het ook aangedui dat die verdagte gesoek word in verband met ‘n moord wat in Julie vanjaar gepleeg is.
“Die verdagte sal Maandag 27 Julie 2026 voor die Wynberg-landdroshof verskyn,” het die SAPD gesê.

Police catch murder suspect
CRIME SCENE: Lavender Hill, Cape Town: The South African Police Service (SAPS) have arrested a murder suspect and confiscated a firearm in Lavender Hill.
According to SAPS the Anti-Gang-Unit conducted a search and stop operation in Grindal Avenue on Wednesday, 22 July 2026. During the operation they searched a 23-year-old a man and found a 9mm Star pistol without a serial number and 64 rounds of ammunition in his possession.
“The members are deployed in the area due to ongoing gang violence. Further investigation also indicated that the suspect is wanted in connection with a murder case perpetrated in July this year.
“The suspect will appear before the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 27 July 2026,” said SAPS.

NASIONAAL: Verdagtes wat ‘n man na bewering ontvoer het, het ‘n onwelkome besoek van die polisie ontvang toe hulle kort nácdie misdaad aangekeer is.
Volgens die Suid-Afrikaanse Polisiediens (SAPD) het die Vrystaatse Provinsiale Moord- en Roofeenheid, die Welkom K9-eenheid en die Parkweg Taktiese Reaksiespan (TRT) saamgewerk om ses mans tussen die ouderdomme van 28 en 46-jaar-oud te vang.
‘n 29-jarige man is na bewering op Vrydag 24 Julie 2026 met ‘n vuurwapen gedreig en uit sy huis in Steyn ontvoer. Die saak is by die Welkom-polisie en die Provinsiale Moord- en Roofeenheid in Thabong aangemeld.
Die familie van die slagoffer het oproepe ontvang wat ‘n losprys vir sy vrylating geëis het. Volgens die SAPD is die Welkom K9- en die TRT-eenheid geaktiveer waarna inligting hulle na ‘n huis in Flamingo Park gelei.
Toe die polisie daar opdaag, het die verdagtes probeer vlug, maar is vinnig aangekeer.
Die 29-jarige slagoffer is in ‘n erge skok toestand in die garage gevind met albei hande agter sy rug vasgebind. Hy het beserings aan die agterkant van sy kop en kneusplekke aan sy hande en voete opgedoen.
Die polisie het twee handwapens en ammunisie gekry en op drie voertuie beslag gelê, waarvan een as gesteel in Winburg aangemeld is.
Die ses verdagtes sal Maandag 27 Julie 2026 in die Welkom-landdroshof verskyn.
Man found in shock, suspects arrested
Police rescue kidnap victim
NATIONAL: A group of alleged kidnappers received and unwelcome visit from the police who apprehended them soon after they had taken their victim.
According to the South African Police Service (SAPS) a collaboration between the Free State Provincial Murder and Robbery Unit, the Welkom K9 Unit, and the Parkweg Tactical Response Team (TRT) resulted in the swift arrest of six men aged between 28 and 46-years.
On Friday, 24 July 2026, a 29-year-old male was allegedly kidnapped at gunpoint from his house in Steyn. The matter was reported to the Welkom Police and the Provincial Murder and Robbery Unit based in Thabong.
The family of the victim received phone calls from the alleged suspects demanding a ransom for his release.
According to SAPS the Welkom K9 and the TRT Unit were activated.
Information led police to a house in Flamingo Park.
When the police arrived the suspects attempted to flee but were quickly apprehended.
The 29-year-old victim was found in a severe state of shock inside the garage with both hands tied behind his back. He sustained injuries to the back of the head and bruises on his hands and feet.
Police seized two handguns, ammunition, and three vehicles, one of which were reported stolen in Winburg.
The six suspects will appear in the Welkom Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 27 July 2026.
Two, including scrapyard owner, arrested
Police find R10 m of Transnet property
NATIONAL: The South African Police Service (SAOS) have made a breakthrough against theft of state infrastructure when they arrested two people allegedly found in possession of Transnet property worth R10 million.
A multidisciplinary operation involving members of the Mount Ruth Rapid Rail Unit, Transnet and Ndevana SAPS led to the arrest of the two suspects earlier this month at Ndevana Location, outside Qonce in the Eastern Cape.
Acting on information received, the joint operational team conducted a search at a scrap metal dealership in Ndevana. Transnet officials positively identified several items belonging to the entity.
Among the items found were overhead track equipment, railway rails weighing approximately, transformer batteries and copper.
The suspect, aged 25 and 35-years, were arrested at the dealership and charged with possession of suspected stolen property and contravention of the Criminal Matters Amendment Act 18 of 2015.
The suspects appeared before the Qonce Magistrate’s Court on 17 July 2026, where the 25-year-old accused was released on bail to allow for further investigation.
The 35-year-old owner of the scrap metal dealership was remanded in custody and is expected to appear before the same court again on 28 July 2026.
