Robbery suspect caught in no time
CRIME SCENE: Heathfield, Cape Town: Private security guards and the South African Police Service (SAPS) reacted quickly and arrested a suspect minutes after a supermarket was robbed on Wednesday afternoon, 29 July 2026.
Sergeant Wesley Twigg, a media liaison officer for the Western Cape police, said Kirstenhof police registered a business robbery for investigation following the robbery at a superette in Main Road, Heathfield, at about 12:30.
“Unknown suspects entered the shop and robbed one of the customers of her cellular telephone. The suspects fled the scene when security guards arrived.
“We can confirm that one adult male suspect was arrested when he was found in possession of the cellular telephone belonging to the customer,” said Twigg.
When Crime Scene Report arrived at the scene, the suspect was locked up in the back of a police van and the scene cordoned off, while police were combing it for possible leads.
There were no injuries reported at the scene.
Nyanga: Efforts to curb extortion in the Nyanga area yielded success when police members arrested two suspects.
Members of Nyanga police were conducting patrols in Mfenyane Road, when they received information about two men who were busy extorting shop owners.
SAPS said they followed up on the information and saw the suspects fitting the description. When the suspects noticed the police they fled, but were apprehended with the help of the community. A 9mm pistol with ammunition and an imitation firearm were confiscated.
The suspects, aged 21 and 24-years, face charges of the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition and the possession of an imitation firearm.
Hanover Park: In an unrelated matter, members of the Anti-Gang-Unit were conducting foot patrols in Petunia Street, Hanover Park, when they noticed a suspect started to run when he saw the police.
“The members chased after the suspect who dropped something while running. Upon further investigation they found a 9mm pistol with ammunition in the yard. An investigation into the origin of the firearm was opened,” said SAPS.

NASIONAAL: ‘n 39-jarige verdagte van Paballong, QwaQwa in die Vrystaat, is Dinsdag 28 Julie 2026 gearresteer tydens ‘n intelligensie-gedrewe operasie deur die Fouriesburg Veediefstaleenheid.
Die verdagte is in besit van 15 skape ter waarde van ongeveer R22 000 by ‘n woning in Bohlokong gevind, het die Suid-Afrikaanse Polisiediens (SAPD) gesê.
Die Bethlehem misdaadintelligensie-eenheid het in samewerking met die Fouriesburg Veediefstaleenheid, opgetree inligting ontvang het oor ‘n verdagte voertuig wat na bewering vee vervoer.
Die voertuig is by ‘n eiendom in Bohlokong opgespoor, waar die polisie 15 skape met vervalste identifikasie-tatoeëermerke gevind het. Die verdagte kon nie bewys van eienaarskap toon nie en is onmiddellik gearresteer.
Die SAPD het mense versoek om nie gesteelde vee of karkasse vir persoonlike gebruik of finansiële gewin te koop nie, aangesien dit ‘n kriminele oortreding is.

Police nab ‘sheep thief’
NATIONAL: A 39-year-old suspect from Paballong Village, QwaQwa in the Free State was arrested on Tuesday, 28 July 2026, during an intelligence-driven operation conducted by the Fouriesburg Stock Theft Unit.
The suspect was found in possession of 15 sheep valued at approximately R22 000 at a residence in Bohlokong, said the South African Police Service (SAPS).
On Tuesday, 28 July 2026, members of the Bethlehem Crime Intelligence Unit, working together with the Fouriesburg Stock Theft Unit, acted on information regarding a suspicious vehicle allegedly transporting livestock.
The vehicle was traced to a residential property in Bohlokong. During the search, police recovered 15 sheep bearing tampered identification tattoos. The suspect failed to produce the required proof of ownership for the livestock and was immediately arrested.
SAPS urged community members not to purchase stolen livestock or carcasses for personal use or financial gain, as it is a criminal offence.

Luitenant-generaal Dyantyi het 34-jaar ervaring in die polisie en het in verskeie operasionele en leierskapsrolle in die Oos- en Wes-Kaap gedien.
Dimpane het gesê Dyantyi het ‘n diep begrip van polisiëring op stasie-, distrik- en provinsiale vlak, ondersteun deur ‘n sterk verbintenis tot uitnemendheid, integriteit en gemeenskapsveiligheid.
Die Suid-Afrikaanse Polisiediens (SAPD) het Dyantyi gelukgewens met sy aanstelling en hom alle sukses toegewens “terwyl hy polisiëring in die Wes-Kaap lei in samewerking met gemeenskappe en ander belanghebbendes om ‘n veiliger provinsie vir almal te skep”.
Dyanti vervang Luitenant-generaal (Adv) Thembisile Phathekile wat vroeër vanjaar afgetree het. Dimpane het Phathekile bedank vir sy vooraanstaande leierskap en toegewyde diens aan die mense van die Wes-Kaap.

New top cop for Western Cape
WESTERN CAPE: Lieutenant General William Dyantyi has been appointed as the new Provincial Police Commissioner of the Western Cape, effective 1 August 2026.
The Acting National Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane, announced the new appointment on Wednesday morning, 29 July 2026 at the Provincial Police headquarters in Cape Town.
Lieutenant General Dyantyi brings with him 34 years of policing experience, having served in various operational and leadership roles across the Eastern and Western Cape.
Dimpane said his career reflected a deep understanding of policing at station, district and provincial level, underpinned by a strong commitment to service excellence, integrity and community safety.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) congratulated Dyantyi on his appointment and wished him every success “as he leads policing in the Western Cape in partnership with communities and stakeholders to create a safer province for all”.
Dyanti replaces Lieutenant General (Adv) Thembisile Phathekile who retired earlier this year. Dimpane thanked Phathekile for his distinguished leadership and dedicated service to the people of the Western Cape.

Die SAPD het gesê ‘n intelligensie-gedrewe operasie deur die Khayelitsha- en Macassar-polisie het gelei tot die arrestasie van twee verdagtes en ontdekking van drie vuurwapens Sondag, 26 Julie 2026.
Die polisie sê hulle het inligting ontvang oor vuurwapens by ‘n huis in Ring-laan, Macassar, en die perseel deursoek. Hier het hulle ‘n 9 mm-pistool met vyf rondtes ammunisie in ‘n motor gevind.
“Verdere ondersoek het die lede na die agterkant van die huis geeem waar hulle ‘n .38 Special-rewolwer met 48 rondtes ammunisie en ‘n 9 mm-pistool gevind het. Twee mans is gearresteer vir die besit van ongelisensieerde vuurwapens en ammunisie,” het die SAPD gesê.
Maandagaand, 27 Julie 2026 was lede van Macassar-polisie besig met patrollies toe hulle inligting ontvang het oor ‘n vuurwapen by ‘n perseel in Ray-straat.
“Die lede het die huis deursoek en ‘n 9 mm-pistool met agt rondtes ammunisie onder die bad gevind het. ‘n Volwasse man is gearresteer vir die besit van ‘n ongelisensieerde vuurwapen en ammunisie,” het die SAPD gesê.

Police recover 4 illegal guns
CRIME SCENE: Macassar, Cape Town: The South African Police Service (SAPS) have removed four illegal guns from the community and arrested three suspects in different operations.
SAPS said an intelligence-driven operation by Khayelitsha and Macassar police led to the arrest of two suspects and the discovery of three firearms on Sunday, 26 July 2026.
The police received information about firearms at a house in Ring Avenue, Macassar, and searched the premises. A 9mm pistol with five rounds of ammunition was found in a car.
“Further investigation led the members to the back of the house, where they found a .38 Special revolver with 48 rounds of ammunition and a 9mm pistol. Two adult males were arrested for the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition,” said SAPS.
On Monday evening, 27 July 2026, members of Macassar police were conducting patrols when they received information about a firearm at premises in Ray Street.
“The members searched the house, where they found a 9mm pistol with eight rounds of ammunition under the bath. An adult male was arrested for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition,” said SAPS.

CRIME SCENE: Paarl, Cape Winelands: Detectives have arrested a suspect for the horrific murder of 57-year-old Jacoba Nel at a guesthouse.
Captain FC Van Wyk, a media liaison officer for the Western Cape police, said the relentless efforts of an integrated team of South African Police Service (SAPS) detectives led to the arrest of the 39-year-old suspect on Monday afternoon, 27 July 2026, in Samora Machel, Philippi.
The police followed up on information they gathered from social media in their efforts to arrest a suspect wanted for the murder of Nel, which occurred at the Lemoenkloof guest house in Paarl on 26 March 2026.
The information led the detectives to Samora Machel, where they identified and arrested the suspect after he had evaded arrest. The suspect faces a charge of murder.
He is due to appear in the Paarl Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 29 July 2026, where his bail will be opposed.
Nel, from Velddrif on the West Coast of the Western Cape, was looking after a family member’s property when she was murdered.
