Man behind bars on same morning as shooting
Long arm of the law grabs suspect
CRIME SCENE: Elsies River, Cape Town: The quick reaction of the South African Police Service (SAPS) led to the arrest of an attempted murder suspect shortly after the crime was committed on Friday morning, 29 May 2026.

Western Cape police media liaison officer, Captain Frederick C. Van Wyk, said a shooting incident occurred in 12th Avenue, Leonsdale.
“The victim was shot and rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. While detectives were on the scene information were gathered and the 37-year-old suspect was identified.
“Members of Operation Lockdown 3 were requested for assistance in tracking the suspect. The information was followed up and members went to an address at Nassau Court, 14th Avenue, Leonsdale, where the suspect was identified and arrested.
“The firearm that was used in the commission of crime is yet to be recovered,” said Van Wyk.
Bonteheuwel: On Saturday, 30 May 2026 at 01:30 Operation Lockdown 3 arrested a 41-year-old man for possession of an unlicensed firearm, ammunition and drugs at a house in Pendoring Street.
According to Van Wyk they were conducting stop and search operation when they saw the suspicious looking male. They stopped and searched him and found him in possession of a 9mm pistol with nine rounds of ammunition, three Mandrax tablets, three half Mandrax tablets, crushed Mandrax, seven sachets of Tik and cash. He resisted arrest which led to an injury on his arm. He was taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention and later detained at Bishop Lavis SAPS.
