Man (21) dies in hail of bullets
CRIME SCENE: Mitchells Plain, Cape Town: A young Mitchells Plain man died in a hail of bullets Thursday afternoon, 28 May 2026.
Mitchell Plain police attended to a complaint of a shooting incident at 14:21 in Rugby Street, Beacon Valley, said Captain FC van Wyk, a media liaison officer for the Western Cape police.
On arrival the police members were shown the body of a male laying on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds to his back, chest and his neck. The 21-year-old victim was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel, said Van Wyk.
A murder case was opened for investigation. The motive is believed to be gang related.

Three killed, three wounded in Khayelitsha
Six hit in mass shooting
CRIME SCENE: Khayelitsha, Cape Town: Three people have been killed and three wounded in another mass shooting incident in the Western Cape.
At approximately 18:00 on Tuesday evening, 27 May 2026, Lingelethu West police members responded to a complaint of a shooting in Mew Way, SD Section, Khayelitsha.
Upon arrival at the scene, the police discovered the bodies of three adult men who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. One victim was found outside the house, while two others were found inside the residence where they had reportedly been seated at the time of the attack.
The three people who were wounded were taken to hospital.
The motive for the attack is yet to be confirmed, but extortion-related activities could be the motive, the South African Police Service (SAPS) said in a statement.
“Experienced detectives attached to the Provincial Serious and Violent Crime Unit are pursuing all available leads to apprehend those responsible for the attack. At this stage, two unknown men are being sought.
“In addition to the investigation, operational forces have been deployed in the area to stabilise the situation and ensure increased police visibility within the affected community,” the police said.

Lockdown grips Ottery
CRIME SCENE: Ottery, Cape Town: The fight against the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition yielded success when members of Operation Lockdown III arrested two suspects for illegal guns, ammunition and drugs.
On Tuesday, 26 May 2026 the police received information of a suspect in possession of possible firearms at a premises in Hohenort Court, Conrad Way, Ottery.
Captain Frederick C van Wyk, Western Cape police media liaison officer, said the members conducted a tactical operation on Wednesday morning at 00:40 the at the address and searched the occupant and premises.
“A 9mm pistol with the serial number removed, a second magazine as well as 17 rounds of ammunition were found in his possession. The firearm with the ammunition was confiscated and 36-year-old suspect arrested,” said Van Wyk.
The members also followed up on information that a flat was used as a storage facility for firearms, ammunition and dealing in drugs.
“At around 01:00 a tactical operation was conducted at the second address. Upon arrival at the premises, the team conducted the search. The occupant, meanwhile, moved from the bedroom, into the toilet, and threw something under the bathtub.
“Upon further investigation a silver Smith and Wesson revolver was recovered. Members continued with their search and six sachets of dagga was found in a small container.
“A 44-year-old male was arrested for possession of a unlicensed firearm without ammunition,” said Van Wyk.
Both suspects are due to appear in the Wynberg Magistrates court on Friday, 29 May 2026.

Teenager killed in shooting
CRIME SCENE: Lotus River, Cape Town: A 15-year-old boy was shot and killed in Lotus River on Wednesday morning, 27 May 2026.
According to Sergeant Wesley Twigg of the Western Cape Police media centre, Grassy Park police responded to a complaint of a shooting at 09:50, in Simon Road, Lotus River.
“When they arrived at the scene, they found the 15-year-old boy with a gunshot wound to his chest and a 22-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his stomach. Both victims were transported to hospital by medical personnel,” said Twigg.
The boy later died in hospital because of the gunshot wound. Police are investigating murder and attempted murder cases.

MISDAADTONEEL: Khayamandi, Stellenbosch: Speurders van die eenheid teen ernstige geweldsmisdaad in Wes-Kaap het soek verdagtes agter verskeie skietvoorvalle in Khayamandi Vrydagaand 22 Mei 2026 en Saterdag. Sewe mense is dood in die vyf voorvalle.
Volgens amptelike polisieverslae het een voorval in Mgabadeli plaasgevind waar drie mans ‘n 46-jarige man doodgeskiet en daarna gevlug het.
In Thubelisha is twee mans van 27 en 32-jaar-oud ook omstreeks 21:00 deur gewapende mans geskiet is.
Die polisie het 10 minute later die liggame van ‘n 27-jarige man en ‘n vrou van 26-jaar in ‘n plakkershut in Firestraat met skietwonde ontdek.
Intussen is polisie op patrollie vertel van ‘n ander voorval in Luyolo-straat waar hulle die liggaam van ‘n 33-jarige man met skietwonde tussen die plakkersshutte ontdek het.
In die vroeë oggendure van Saterdag is die polisie na 7de-laan uitgeroep waar die liggaam van ‘n 37-jarige man ook met skietwonde ontdek is.
Die motief vir die skietvoorvalle en of die voorvalle met mekaar verband hou, word ondersoek. Geen arrestasies is nog gemaak nie.
Stellenbosch rocked by shooting spree
Manhunt after five people murdered
CRIME SCENE: Khayamandi, Stellenbosch: Provincial serious violent crime detectives have launched a manhunt for suspects believed to be behind several shooting incidents in Khayamandi on Friday evening, 22 May 2026 and one on Saturday.
The five incidents left seven people dead.
Official police reports indicate that one incident occurred in Mgabadeli where a 46-year-old man was shot and killed after he returned from work, allegedly by three gunmen who fled thereafter.
In Thubelisha, two males aged 27 and 32 were also shot by yet-to-be identified gunmen at approximately 21:00.
Meanwhile in Fire Street, police discovered the bodies of a 27-year-old man and a woman aged 26 in a shack with gunshot wounds at 21:10.
Police on patrol were flagged down and alerted to another incident in Luyolo Street between the shacks where they discovered the body of a 33-year-old man with gunshot wounds.
In the early hours of Saturday morning, police were called out to 7th Avenue where the body of a 37-year-old man was also discovered with gunshot wounds.
The motive for the shooting incidents is the subject of the police. The detectives are also probing whether the incidents are linked. No arrests have been made.
Plea to parents to help combat problem
School battles substance abuse
A Cape Town school has made a desperate plea to parents to help it in its battle against substance abuse among learners.
A letter, signed by the principal and two deputies, was issued to parents but quickly made its way to social media.
The letter states that the number of learners arriving at school under the influence of substances such as “dagga”, has become increasingly concerning and many children do not recognise it as a harmful drug.
It continues: “In most cases, these learners display poor behaviour, disrupt teaching and learning, and struggle to focus academically. Another worrying trend is that girls are being asked to keep or hide illegal substances on behalf of boys.
“Parents are reminded, that possession of illegal substances is a serious offence and places all learners at risk.”
The letter reminded parents that schools have the right, in terms of the South African Schools Act, “to conduct random searches and drug testing where there is reasonable suspicion or as part of maintaining a safe and disciplined school environment.
“What has become even more alarming is the increasing number of Grade 8 and 9 learners found in possession of vaping apparatus during random searches.”
It appealed to parents to work closely with the school.
“We need the support and cooperation of every parent to protect our learners and create a safe environment where teaching and learning can take place effectively,” the letter states.
A spokesperson for the Western Cape Education Department (WCED), Millicent Merton, said, as mentioned in the school’s letter to parents, parental support is vital in addressing issues like substance abuse.
“Schools are public spaces and, in terms of law, the National Minister of Basic Education declared all public schools as drug- and dangerous weapon free zones.
“Schools’ codes of conduct are also very clear on this and can include cigarettes, vapes and alcohol.
“The Western Cape Provincial School Education Act, allow random search and seizure and testing for the use of illegal drugs if there is suspicion that it is being taken/used/distributed on the school premises. As the WCED, we will continue to implement programmes that assist in addressing school safety,” said Merton
The WCED are also working together with other departments in the Western Cape Government to try and address the complex social issues that give rise to young people getting involved in gangs or anti-social behaviour.
The school’s letter also addressed issues such as bullying and the cellphone policy.

Man stabbed to death in Lavender Hill
CRIME SCENE: Lavender Hill, Cape Town: A 27-year-old man was stabbed to death in Lavender Hill on Friday morning, 22 May 2026.
Sergeant Wesley Twigg of the Western Cape police media office said Steenberg police registered a murder case for investigation following the stabbing incident at about 07:00, on the corner of Urfield and Epsten Roads.
Twigg said police members attended to the crime scene where they found the victim with a stab wound to his body.
“He was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel. The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation and arrests are yet to be made.”

CRIME SCENE: Bellville, Cape Town: The Metro Police’s K9 Unit struck again on Thursday, 21 May 2026 in Bellville where they confiscated Mandrax tablets with a street value of more than R130 000.
JP Smith, the City of Cape Town’s Mayoral Committee member for Safety and Security, said on Facebook officers received a tip-off just before midday about drugs allegedly being stored at the Tienie Meyer Bypass informal settlement.
They made their way to the premises where the occupant granted permission to conduct a search.
“Officers initially discovered four Mandrax tablets, but decided to call in their K9 colleagues who conducted a sweep. It wasn’t long before K9 ‘Bunny’ led its handler to a black bag hidden behind a cupboard.
“In it was nearly 3 000 Mandrax tablets with a street value of more than R130 000, 14 rounds of ammunition, a stolen cellphone and more than R5 000 in cash,” said Smith.
A 34-year-old suspect was arrested and detained at Bellville SAPS for further investigation.
Crime Scene Report reported a week ago K9 ‘Virus’ uncovered a drug stash in a parked car at Parksig Villas, in Bellville, with an estimated street value of more than R2,7-million.
