Driver shot in face after picking up two men

Police probe shooting in vehicle

CRIME SCENE: Kuruman, Northern Cape: The South African Police Service (SAPS) are investigating an incident in which the driver of a Toyota Quantum was shot inside his vehicle.

According to SAPS, the “alleged shooting incident occurred on Thursday, 6 August 2026 at approximately 18:00, at the Bankara T- junction in Kuruman.

“It is alleged that the 36-year-old male driver of a Toyota Quantum, with one passenger, was driving near the hitch-hiking spot at the Bankara T-junction where he stopped and picked up two passengers.

“It is alleged that one of the passengers was armed with a firearm. The driver was reportedly forced to sit behind the driver’s seat. One of the passengers reportedly then shot the driver in the face and shoulder,” said SAPS.

Kuruman SAPS are investigating a case of attempted murder and are urging community members who may have information regarding the incident to contact the investigating officer Sergeant Othusitse Sepalamelo at 072 101 5008. Alternatively contact Stop on 08600 10111 or use the MySAPS-App.

SAPS said it was aware of a video about the incident circulating on social media and urged the public to refrain from posting unverified information that may be distressing and cause panic.
