Worker finds foetus among dirt
Another child tragedy
CRIME SCENE: Vrygrond, Cape Town: Barely a day after the discovery of a newborn baby in Lotus River, another gruesome discovery, this time of a foetus, was made on Monday morning, 4 May 2026.

According to Captain FC van Wyk of the Western Cape Police Media Office, the police were called out to Capricorn near Muizenberg where an Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) worker noticed a foetus between some dirt.
The worker was busy cleaning an open field in Vrygrond Avenue, using a rake when she made the discovery.
The City of Cape Town councillor for the area, Mandy Marr, described the incident as an absolutely devastating and senseless tragedy.
“My heart goes out to the entire community as we all mourn this painful loss,” said Marr via a WhatsApp group.
A local community activist posted the following on Facebook: “Another baby found amongst dirt in our community in Vrygrond Avenue, Vrygrond. Mothers please support your children during this time, or adults if you know you pregnant and no longer wants the baby, speak to someone at the MOU or organizations in your community. This cannot carry on. Babies being dumped due to you being irresponsible/ having unprotected sex. Contraceptives are free for anyone young and old. There is no excuse for this behavior. If you know something speak up!! Being silent dont help anyone.”

In the Lotus River incident, the body of a newborn baby girl was found in a stormwater drain in Lotus River on Sunday afternoon, 3 May 2026. The baby’s 31-year-old mother was arrested on Saturday, 2 May 2026.
The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.

MISDAADTONEEL: Strandfontein, Kaapstad: Inwoners van Strandfontein het ‘n 21-jarige man op 28 April 2026 aan die polisie uitgewys omdat hy na bewering in die besit van ‘n ongelisensieerde vuurwapen was.

Die polisie het die man in Birkenheadrylaan, Strandfontein deursoek.
‘n Taurus-rewolwer is in sy sak gevind en hy kon nie ‘n vuurwapenlisensie toon nie. Hy is daar en dan in hegtenis geneem.
MISDAADTONEEL: Steenberg: Lede van Operasie Shanel 2, wat in die Steenberg-gebied ontplooi is om bendegeweld te beveg, het ‘n perseel in Sullivanstraat deursoek nadat hulle inligting ontvang het van ‘n vermeende bendelid met ‘n vuurwapen.
Die polisie het ‘n replika-geweer in die huis gevind en ‘n 32-jarige verdagte gearresteer.
Operasie Prosper-ontplooiings in die Steenberg- en Muizenberg-polisiegebiede om bendegeweld te bestry, het gelei tot die arrestasie van ‘n verdagte vir die besit van dwelms op Dinsdag 28 April 2026.
Die polisie het ‘n perseel in Orchardstraat, Hillview, deursoek en 27 Mandrax-tablette, meer as 16 gram gram ongesnyde Tik en 86 klein pakkies met Tik in ‘n oond in die huis gevind. ‘n 29-jarige man is gearresteer vir die besit van dwelms.
Die Anti-Bende-eenheid het ‘n 25-jarige man in hegtenis geneem vir die besit van ‘n ongelisensieerde 9mm-pistool sonder ‘n reeksnommer en ammunisie in Falconweg, Seawind. Hy staan tereg op aanklagte van die besit van ‘n ongelisensieerde vuurwapen en ammunisie.

CRIME SCENE: Strandfontein, Cape Town: The police here arrested a 21-year-old man for possession of an unlicensed firearm on 28 April 2026.

The police responded to information about a person in possession of a firearm in Birkenhead Drive, Strandfontein. The suspect was pointed out to the police when they arrived and they searched his bag.
A Taurus revolver was found in the bag and he could not produce a firearm license. He was arrested there and then.
CRIME SCENE: Steenberg: Members of Operation Shanel 2, deployed in the Steenberg area to combat gang violence searched a premises in Sullivan Street, after they received information of a suspected gang member in possession of a firearm.
During the search they found a replica rifle in the house. The 32-year-old suspect was arrested for possession of an imitation firearm.
Operation Prosper deployments in the Steenberg and Muizenberg policing precincts to combat gang violence led to the arrest of a suspect for the possession of drugs on Tuesday, 28 April 2026.
During a search of a premises in Orchard Street, Hillview, the police found 27 Mandrax tablets, 16.94 grams of uncut Tik and 86 small packets containing Tik hidden in the oven in the house. A 29-year-old man was arrested for the possession of drugs.
The Anti-Gang Unit arrested a 25-year-old male who for possession of a unlicenced 9mm pistol without a serial number and ammunition, in Falcon Road, Seawind. He faces charges for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Volgens die woordvoerder van die Muizenberg-gemeenskapspolisiëringsforum, Wayne Turner, was lede van die Muizenberg-misdaadvoorkomingseenheid omstreeks 01:00 op Maandag 22 Februarie 2026 besig met patrollies in toe hulle ’n verdagte man in Doringweg oplet.
Die polisie het die verdagte genader en deursoek en ‘n Star-vuurwapen met geen reeksnommer en 13 rondtes 9 mm-ammunisie in sy besit gevind.
Die bevelvoerder van die Muizenberg-polisie, lt.kol. Nokwanda Harmans, het sy lede se proaktiewe pogings geloof en gese hulle sal voortgaan om onvermoeid te werk om die veiligheid en sekuriteit van die Muizenberg-polisiëringsgebied te verseker.
Die verdagte, ‘n inwoner van Capricorn, is in hegtenis geneem en sal in die Muizenberg-landdroshof verskyn.”
Die GPF het in sy verklaring gesê die Muizenberg-polisie bly verbind tot patrollies en sigbare polisiëring wat daarop gemik is om onwettige vuurwapens uit gemeenskappe te verwyder en die veiligheid van alle inwoners te verseker.

Suspect arrested for illegal gun and ammo

A MAN was arrested in Capricorn near Lavender Hill for unlawful possession of a firearm and mmunition.

According to a statement issued by the media liaison officer of the Muizenberg Community Policing Forum, Wayne Turner, members of the Muizenberg Crime Prevention Unit (CPU) were conducting routine patrols in the Capricorn at about 1am on Monday, 22 February 2026 when they approached a suspicious man Doring Road.
Upon searching the suspect, the members discovered a Star firearm with no serial number and 13 rounds of 9mm ammunition in his possession.
The Muizenberg-police station commander, Lt Colonel Nokwanda Harmans, commended the vigilance and proactive efforts of the police “who continue to work tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of the Muizenberg policing precinct.
The suspect, a resident of Capricorn, was arrested for the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition. He is expected to appear in the Muizenberg Magistrate’s Court once formally charged.”
The CPF said in its statement the Muizenberg police remain committed to ongoing patrols and visible policing aimed at removing illegal firearms from communities and ensuring the safety of all residents.
