Jongman sterf oppad na vriend
Polisievrou en ma in hof oor tref-en-trap
MISDAADTONEEL: Athlone, Kaapstad: ‘n Metro polisievrou en haar ma is in die pekel nadat hulle gearresteer is vir die tref-trap-saak van ‘n 21-jarige man van Athlone, Imtiyaaz Firfery.
Die ongeluk het 18 April 2026.04 in Jan Smuts-rylaan, Crawford plaasgevind.
Die polisiebeamte, wat tydens die ongeluk afdiens was, Naeema Daniels (25), en haar ma, Nadia Daniels (54), het Dinsdag, 28 April 2026 in die Athlone-landdroshof verskyn in verband met die saak.
Naeema staan tereg op, onder meer, aanklagte van versuiming om: stil te hou by ‘n ongelukstoneel; beserings en skade vas te stel; en bystand te verleen.
Haar ma, wat na bewering die passasier in die motor was, staan tereg op ‘n aanklag van verydeling of belemmering van die reg.
Firfirey is die aand van 18 April 2026 as vermis aangemeld nadat hy sy huis in Athlone verlaat het om na ‘n vriend te gaan, maar nooit daar opgedaag het nie.
Later daardie aand moes die familie hom by die lykshuis gaan uitken nadat hulle gekontak is oor ‘n ongeluk op Jan Smuts-rylaan, Crawford waarin een persoon dood is.
Naeema is borgtog van R4 000 toegestaan en haar ma is op waarskuwing vrygelaat. Hulle sal weer op 24 Julie 2026 verskyn.
Die polisie het intussen die voertuig gekonfiskeer vir verdere ondersoek.

Breakthrough in hit-and-run tragedy
CRIME SCENE: Athlone, Cape Town: THE South African Police Service (SAPS) has made a breakthrough in the hit-and-run case of 21-year-old Imtiyaaz Firfery on 18 April 2026.04.29.
An off-duty Metro Police officer Naeema Daniels (25) and her mother Nadia Daniels (54), appeared in the Athlone Magistrates Court on Tuesday, 28 April 2026 in connection with the case.
The Metro cop faces a number of charges including, failure to: stop at an accident scene; ascertain injuries and damages; and render assistance. Her mother, who was allegedly the passenger in the car, faces a charge of defeating or obstructing the administration of justice.
Firfirey was reported missing the evening of 18 April 2026 after leaving his home in Athlone to go to a friend, but he never arrived.
Later that evening the family had to identify him at the mortuary after they were contacted about an accident on Jan Smuts Drive, in which one person had died.
The police have confiscated the vehicle for further investigation.
Naeema was granted bail of R4 000 and her mother was released on a warning. They will appear again on 24 July 2026.
