About 70 metres of cable found in backpack
Pro-active patrols lead to arrest
CRIME SCENE: Rondebosch, Cape Town: A suspect has been caught, allegedly with about 70 metres of copper cable.
Officers from the security company, Compass Tactical, were conducting patrols on 7 June 2026 when they identified a suspicious-looking man carrying a backpack, the company posted on Facebook.
The officers conducted an enquiry and during a search of the suspect’s backpack, discovered suspected stolen copper cable along with tools commonly associated with cable theft.
Approximately 5–7kg of cable was recovered on scene, including lengths measuring approximately 50 metres and 20 metres.
The Rondebosch police were called to the scene where they detained the suspect.

Die stasie se misdaad-voorkomingseenheid het ‘n padblokkade saam met die metropolisie op die hoek van Hoof- en Fairdale-weg uitgevoer. Omstreeks 21:20 het hulle ‘n Toyota Hilux met drie insittendes voorgekeer.
Tydens die deursoeking het die polisie twee 9mm-pistole sonder reeksnommers, ‘n replika vuurwapen en 22 rondtes ammunisie gevind. Die drie mans is gearrester.

Lede van Operasie Lockdown 3 het opgetree op grond van inligting oor dwelms wat by ‘n huis in Endweg, Bishop Lavis, aangehou word. Hulle het die perseel deursoek, 75 Mandrax-tablette gevind en die vrou gearresteer.

Police recover 3 illegal guns
CRIME SCENE: Diep River, Cape Town: Members of Diep River Crime Prevention Unit arrested three suspects for possession of prohibited firearms on Saturday, 6 June 2026.
The team conducted a vehicle check point operation with metro police at the corner of Main Road and Fairdale Road. At around 21:20, they stopped a Toyota Hilux with three occupants.
During the search, the members found two 9mm pistols without serial numbers, an imitation firearm and 22 rounds of ammunition. The three men were arrested.
Bishop Lavis: A 25-year-old woman was arrested at her Bishop Lavis home on Friday, 5 June 2026. Members of Operation Lockdown 3 acted on information about drugs that were kept at a house in End Road, Bishop Lavis. They searched the premises, found 75 Mandrax tablets and arrested the suspect.

Kaptein FC van Wyk, ‘n media skakelbeampte van die Wes-Kaapse polisie, sê die Philippi polisie is omstreeks 05:00 na die skietvoorval in Primrose-straat, Hanover Park, ontbied.
Toe die polisie by die toneel opdaag, het hulle die slagoffer in die straat kry lê. Hy het veelvuldige skietwonde aan die kop gehad. ‘n Moordsaak is geopen en die omstandighede rondom die voorval word ondersoek.

CRIME SCENE: Hanover Park, Cape Town: A young man was shot and killed early on Monday morning, 8 June 2026.
Captain FC van Wyk, a Western Cape police media liaison officer, said the Philippi police attended to the shooting incident at about 05:00 in Primrose Street, Hanover Park.
The victim, a 20-year-old man was found laying in the street when they arrived. He had multiple gunshot wounds to the head. A murder case was opened and the circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.

MISDAADTONEEL: Langa: Kaapstad: Ses mense is binne ‘n paar uur van mekaar in twee afsonderlike voorvalle in Langa en Philippi-Oos doodgeskiet.
Speurders van die Ernstige en Geweldsmisdaad-eenheid ondersoek ‘n driedubbele moord wat Sondagmiddag 7 Junie 2026 in Langa plaasgevind het.
Volgens die Wes-Kaapse polisie se media kantoor het beamptes op patrollie gereageer op ‘n skietery omstreeks 15:45 by ‘n braai staanplek in Chief Albert Luthuli-straat. Toe hulle by die toneel aankom, het hulle drie mans met noodlottige skietwonde aangetref.
Die motief vir die aanval is nog onbekend en geen arrestasies is in hierdie stadium gemaak nie.
Philippi-Oos: In die ander voorval, Saterdagaand 6 Junie 2026 omstreeks 19:00, is drie mans by ‘n vrugte- en groentestalletjie in Ntloyiyastraat, Lower Crossroads, Philippi-Oos doodgeskiet.
Die polisie sê drie verdagtes het op die slagoffers losgebrand. Hulle het veelvuldige skietwonde opgedoen en is op die toneel dood verklaar. Die motief is nog onbekend en geen arrestasies is nog gemaak nie.

Six shot dead within hours
CRIME SCENE: Langa: Cape Town: Six people were shot dead in two separate incidents in Langa and Philippi East within a few hours.
Detectives from the Serious and Violent Crime Unit are investigating a triple murder that occurred in Langa on Sunday afternoon, 7 June 2026.
According to the Western Cape police media office, officers on patrol responded to reports of a shooting at around 15:45 at a braai stand in Chief Albert Luthuli Street. When they arrived, they found three adult men who had suffered fatal gunshot wounds.
The motive for the attack is still unknown and the suspects have not yet been identified. No arrests have been made at this stage.
Philippi East: On Saturday night, 6 June 2026 at around 19:00 three men were shot and killed at a fruit and vegetable stall in Ntloyiya Street, Lower Crossroads, Philippi East.
The police say three suspects opened fire on the victims, sustained multiple gunshot wounds and were declared dead at the scene. The motive is still unclear and no arrests have been made.
The police have requested anyone with information about the shootings to report it anonymously via Crime Stop at 08600 10111 or the MySAPS-App.

MISDAADTONEEL: Delft, Kaapstad: Die Suid-Afrikaanse Polisiediens (SAPD) het drie mense gearresteer ná konstabel Maandagoggend, 8 Junie 2026 wreed met ‘n byl aangeval is.
‘n Media skakelbeampte vir die Wes-Kaapse polisie, Kolonel André Traut, sê die voorval het omstreeks 02:00 plaasgevind terwyl die konstabel buite die SAPD Gemeenskap-dienssentrum in Delft gestaan het.
‘n Verdagte het die konstabel genader en met ‘n byl op die kop geslaan, wat ernstige beserings veroorsaak het.
Volgens Traut het ‘n kollega wat die voorval gesien het, onmiddellik gereageer en waarskuwing-skote afgevuur. Die verdagtes het gevlug en hulle voertuig agter gelaat in ‘n poging om arrestasie te ontduik.
“’SAPD-lede en LEAP (Law Enforcement Advancement Plan) beamptes het vinnig reageer en saamgespan om die area te deursoek. Drie verdagtes, twee mans van 23- en 25-jaar-oud en ‘n 23-jarige vrou is kort daarna gearresteer. Die byl wat vermoedelik in die aanval gebruik is, is ook teruggevind,” het Traut gesê.
Die beseerde polisiebeampte is na ‘n hospitaal vervoer vir behandeling en sy toestand is stabiel.

Three suspects behind bars
Policeman attacked with axe
CRIME SCENE: Delft, Cape Town: The South African Police Services (SAPS) have arrested three people for a brutal axe attack on one of their own on Monday morning, 8 June 2026.
A media liaison officer for the Western Cape police, Colonel André Traut, said the incident happened at about 02:00 while the constable was standing outside the SAPS Community Service Centre in Delft.
He was approached by a suspect with an axe, who struck the constable on the head, causing serious injuries.
According to Traut a fellow officer who witnessed the incident immediately responded and fired warning shots, causing the suspects to flee. They abandoned their vehicle and attempted to evade arrest.
“A coordinated pursuit by SAPS members and LEAP (Law Enforcement Advancement Plan) officers resulted in the arrest of three suspects, two men aged 23 and 25-years and a 23-year-old woman. The axe believed to have been used in the attack was also recovered,” said Traut.
The injured police officer was transported to a hospital for treatment and is reported to be in a stable condition.
The circumstances surrounding the attack are under investigation.
