CRIME SCENE: Mitchells Plain, Cape Town: Two men have been arrested in the same street in Tafelsig for possession of illegal firearms and ammunition.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) Anti-Gang Unit arrested the suspects during an intelligence-driven operation on Thursday, 24 September 2026.

According to SAPS the members followed up on information about a suspected firearm at Santa Barbara Street, Tafelsig. 

“After a thorough search a 28-year-old man was apprehended for the illegal possession of ammunition and possession of a prohibited firearm following the discovery of four rounds of ammunition and a firearm in his house.

“The operation led the members to a another house in the same street, where they found a firearm and 11 rounds of ammunition during a search. As a result, a 36-year-old man was arrested for possession of a prohibited firearm and illegal possession of ammunition,” said SAPS.
